The Memorable Cheering Stations

Our Volunteer Cheering Stations Help Encourage Walkers Throughout the Night and Keep Their Spirits High

Volunteer Cheering Stations at the 2012 San Francisco Overnight Walk
One of the most frequent comments from Walkers every year at the Overnight Walk is that they felt incredibly supported and encouraged by the many Cheering Stations along the route and that they felt like their journey was made much easier by the Volunteers who staffed them.

Carrying signs and decorations and having the enthusiasm and spirit necessary to keep the Walkers organized between Rest Stops and Quick Stops along the route, these Volunteers made the night come alive and kept spirits high.

18 Miles of Encouragement

One of the hallmarks of the Overnight Walk is that there is generally support and respite to be had at many different spots along the route and that Walkers get to see and feel this support throughout their experience.

The Cheering Stations are a large part of this as they often fill the gaps between the Rest Stops along the way. The Cheering groups that we had out this past year in San Francisco made an enormous difference and were scattered all along the route at 6 separate spots.

People Helping People

The Cheering Stations were run entirely by Volunteers who just wanted to help encourage the Walkers along the way. These Volunteers showed up at all hours of the night at various points along the route to help encourage and support the Walkers and many of these Volunteers are Survivors themselves and have their own very personal connections to the Overnight Walk and AFSP.

Thanks again to all of our wonderful Cheering Station Volunteers at all of our Overnight Walks!
