LEARN ABOUT THE PROGRAMS YOUR OVERNIGHT FUNDRAISING HELPS SUPPORT
As an Overnight participant, the money you raise helps keep The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Education and Prevention Programs in schools across the country. Today, we spotlight one of AFSP's most innovative programs - The Interactive Screening Program or the ISP.
“Most of the students I saw who used this service would not have sought treatment on their own and were tremendously grateful for the help they received.”
- Jill Rosenberg, L.C.S.W. Emory University Counselor
What is it?
AFSP’s signature prevention program, the ISP is a web-based method for anonymously connecting people at risk for suicide to a counselor who provides information and support for help-seeking.
What is the benefit?
The ISP is able to provide an anonymous way for at-risk youth to have personalized contact with real counselors and get them into treatment if needed. An estimated 15 to 20% of students suffer from depression and other mental disorders that put them at risk for suicide. Those who need help the most are often the least likely to request available services. ISP helps bridge the gap for students who may be apprehensive to seek treatment and can encourage them to get help.
You can find more information on several of the published studies that have reported on the ISP’s success by clicking here.
The Interactive Screening Program is just one example of the many ways your efforts help AFSP.
The ISP was initially developed for colleges and universities and is now used by over 60 campuses across the country. The ISP has also been adapted for outreach to at-risk groups in the population at large, including in the workplace, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the NFL. How Your Overnight Fundraising Helps This Program
The funds raised during your Overnight journey can help place AFSP’s innovative Interactive Screening Program (ISP) at a college or university. This includes the development and maintenance of the ISP website along with staff training and ongoing technical assistance.
