Help Us Make the 2013 Overnight Walk A Success.

Not Walking in the 2013 Overnight? Join us and Crew or Volunteer.

The Overnight Walk is made successful each year with the help of the many dedicated Crew Members and Volunteers that help us both on the route itself and at the Ceremony Site. Assisting Overnight staff with everything from Rest Stops and Route Safety to Check-in and Registration, our Crew and Volunteers are an integral part of the event.

Crew Members and Volunteers are often friends and family of Walkers participating in the event and these are a great way for everyone to be involved in different ways.

Take a look at the different roles we still have available at this year’s Overnight and let us know how you would like to help.

Join the 2013 Overnight Crew

Crew Members for the Overnight Walk are formed into smaller teams and help us with all of the safety and logistic aspects of the Overnight Route. Supporting Walkers throughout the night with water, snacks, medical help, and logistic support, the Crew Teams are greatly appreciated by the Walkers each and every year.

We’re still looking for Crew Members in:
  • Licensed Medical Professionals for the Medical Team     (Should be licensed in Washington, DC)
  • Midnight Snack, Rest Stops, and Quick Stops
  • Route Marking and Clean-Up
  • Motorcycle Safety
  • And More

Get in touch with our Coaches at 888-843-6837 or email our Crew Coordinator directly at Roze.Mota@theovernight.org and get all the details about joining Crew for this year’s Overnight Walk.

Volunteer at the Ceremony Site

Our Volunteers are a small army of several hundred people who help the staff set up and manage the Ceremony Site on the day of the Overnight event. Volunteers can be with us for one shift on either Saturday or Sunday, or work with us throughout the night and be present for both Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

We still have Volunteer roles available:
  • We need licensed Medical Professionals to help us check over Medical Forms at the Check-In area and Ceremony Site (Licensed anywhere in the U.S.).
  • We’re still looking for Volunteers for a variety of shifts and roles on Saturday afternoon (lasting until about midnight) and Sunday early morning (from midnight until 6:00am).
  • We’ll also need help in the week before the event to canvass all of the neighborhoods that the Overnight Route goes through. If you can spare a few hours during the week and can help us let the community know what to expect from the Overnight Walk, let us know.

Get in touch with our Coaches at 888-843-6837 or email our Volunteer Coordinator directly at Kimble.Snyder@theovernight.org and get all the details about Volunteering with us at this year’s Overnight Walk.

Crew Spotlight: The Wheats

Brother and Sister Alumni Crew Members Keep Walkers Going Throughout the Night

The Overnight Crew
As Walkers journey throughout the host city in the Overnight each year, they see our dedicated Crew Members at the various Rest Stops and Quick Stops, at Midnight Snack, out along the route blocking intersections, and even following along behind making sure that all of the Walkers are on track and safe throughout the course of the night.

Many of our Crew Members are returning veterans of past Overnight events and have traveled to various cities around the country to pick up their roles once again and help make the Overnight Walk a success. Two of the well known faces that participants have seen at the Overnight Walk in the past several years are the Wheats, Cari and Josh, who have worked as Crew for the last three events together.

“We’re All a Part of This Together”
From Route Marking teams and Route Cleanup to last year’s appearance at the Midnight Snack stop in San Francisco, the Wheats have had their hands in many different aspects of the

The Memorable Cheering Stations

Our Volunteer Cheering Stations Help Encourage Walkers Throughout the Night and Keep Their Spirits High

Volunteer Cheering Stations at the 2012 San Francisco Overnight Walk
One of the most frequent comments from Walkers every year at the Overnight Walk is that they felt incredibly supported and encouraged by the many Cheering Stations along the route and that they felt like their journey was made much easier by the Volunteers who staffed them.

Carrying signs and decorations and having the enthusiasm and spirit necessary to keep the Walkers organized between Rest Stops and Quick Stops along the route, these Volunteers made the night come alive and kept spirits high.

Route Flyering Teams Canvass the Route

Helping Get the Word Out About the Overnight in the Community and Gathering Support for Walkers

Volunteers help the Overnight Walk Staff
Our Route Flyering Volunteer Teams for the 2012 Overnight Walk were a huge help and an important piece of the pre-walk preparations as they canvassed the streets of San Francisco and helped us get the word out to neighbors, local businesses, and San Francisco residents in general in the weeks before the Overnight Walk.

Covering the City

We were fortunate to have five separate teams of Volunteers who took time out of their day to join us at various points around the city of San Francisco and place flyers in local businesses and on resident’s doors to let them know that our Walkers would be coming through their neighborhoods.

This is a very important piece of the Overnight’s preparations because it not only provides residents and business owners with the courtesy of letting them know that we will be in their neighborhood en masse, but also letting them know that they can help support the Walkers in their own way on-event.

Superheroes in San Francisco?

Crew Members Liven Up the Night for Overnight Walkers

Suicide Prevention Walk Crew Teams
Did anyone expect to see Space Ghost at the Overnight Walk?

At about the 9 mile mark of the San Francisco Overnight, while tired and hungry and coming into the night’s Midnight Snack area, Walkers were expecting to feed their bodies but were also treated to feeding their spirits by one of the many Crew Teams that dressed in themed costumes for the 2012 Overnight.

The Midnight Snack Team made an impression this year in San Francisco as Superheroes and entertained and lifted tired spirits while they passed out meals to Walkers at the Caltrain station. With Space Ghost and caped crusaders helping feed the crowd, Walkers were able to relax and take a much deserved break while commiserating and preparing for the last half of their journey.
