Where the Money Goes. . . .

The Funds You Raise for the Overnight Could Save a Life

Every 40 seconds someone in the world dies by suicide
The Overnight Walk serves two purposes each year: to help AFSP spread awareness and reach out to those affected by suicide and mental illness, and to help AFSP raise much needed funds to continue and expand its mission.

AFSP is a small foundation, and much of our annual fundraising comes from the Overnight Walk (almost 20%!). When you agree to help us with your minimum fundraising amount it is not just a Walk.

It’s not just a check.

It’s a lifesaving effort.

Take a Look at What AFSP Can Do With the Money You Raise

More Than Sad Suicide Prevention Program
Each Walker in the Overnight each year agrees to help AFSP by raising $1000. It is not a small amount, but it is an amount that we know is achievable. With our help and the tools we provide, this $1000 can help bring hope, support, resources, and education to those that need them most.

·       EVERY $50: AFSP provides educational materials to 25 people. If just one person seeks help after reading these materials, a life could be saved for less than the cost of dinner and a movie.
·       EVERY $100: AFSP educates a mental health professional or primary care physician about the warning signs of suicide. Each of them in turn, will reach and inform hundreds - maybe thousands – of people.
After a Suicide - A Toolkit for Schools
·       EVERY $500: Trains a new Survivor of Suicide support group facilitator. Each new facilitator will bring group members together with other survivors. Together, they will see that that they are not alone.
·       EVERY $1,000: Along with $1,000 each raised by 30 other Walkers, funds a year of research into the genetic, biological or behavioral factors that contribute to suicide. The number of lives potentially saved by this research is incalculable.

Every dollar you raise will help you save the life of a child, a parent, a sibling or a close friend.
